Weddings
Emily & Phil
I met Emily and Phil through Emily’s sweet childhood friend Melissa, whose wedding I photographed earlier this year. As soon as we spoke on the phone and she told me about their love of travel, family and how much fun they have just hanging out with Phil’s children, I knew it was going to be such a great fit working together and an amazing heartfelt day to document and witness. When I asked Em and Phil what they were most looking forward to about the wedding day, their answer was simple and to the point, “Getting everyone together.” Emily’s family is from Massachusetts, and Phil’s family is mostly in England, so having everyone in one place was really a special and rare opportunity.
The day truly began when Em and Phil saw each other for the first time before the ceremony. Her beaming smile, and his look of pure admiration, and their laughter and tears in that moment were everything. Their ceremony was outdoors under a beautiful, old tree on the back lawn of a historic, private country club in the Boston suburbs. Julie Lapham designed beautiful floral elements to compliment the setting. Emily wore a veil that is a family heirloom that every woman in Emily’s Mom’s family has worn since sometime in the 1800s.
Emily and Phil put family first in each aspect of planning their wedding, from Emily’s brother officiating the ceremony, Phil’s daughter was Emily’s maid of honor, Emily’s father giving an eloquent and heartfelt welcome, and Phil’s 11 year old son and best man giving a rousing toast. It was a beautiful summer evening, and everyone lingered outdoors in the August breeze until the dinner bell rang and they were called inside. After everyone enjoyed their meal, the dance party began! Brick Park brought down the house, and Em and Phil barely left the dance floor, belting out each song like it was the last.
The pure love and pride that Emily and Phil’s family and friends feel towards the couple and the kids was evident in each moment of the day. It was one of those days where my cheeks hurt from smiling behind the camera, and I’m smiling now, writing this post and thinking about these four beginning their journey together officially as a family. Special thanks to Jake Belcher for documenting this day with me.
