Jess and Dave are celebrating their 13th dating anniversary this weekend, congratulations to them! We did an engagement session a few weeks back exploring the nooks and crannies of Fort Point and South Boston. These two are so dynamic and adventurous together, lucky for me! Jess works for Class Pass, has a really wonderful fitness blog, Little Miss Runshine, and she and Dave run marathons together, so they kept me on my toes!

Here’s the story about how they met from Dave’s perspective: Jess and I went to middle and high school together. Until the end of junior year high school we didn’t really talk or hang out. Just saw each other occasionally in the halls. Some of our friends were friends, so I heard them talk about her sometimes. Our first real discussion was over AIM (AOL Instant Messenger). She asked me if I thought one of my friends would want to go to prom with her. I said of course because she was pretty and smart. So they went together. But it didn’t work out. And it didn’t work out for me and my prom date either. Jess and I ended up getting back on AIM and venting about our lackluster proms. And eventually setting up a date.

To celebrate their anniversary, I thought it would be fun to share what their first impressions of each other were way back when.

Dave’s First Thoughts on Jess: Intimidated by how pretty and smart she was. Remember my friends telling me she was in all the AP classes and had one of the highest GPAs.

Jess’ first thoughts on Dave: I thought he was a really in shape, handsome, and intriguing. He was quiet but seemed to have a unique humor that came about at just the right time. He was in the band and I thought it was sexy that he played the saxophone. Though his wood paneled station wagon wasn’t as sexy as that.

To sum it up from Jess, their relationship is “Real. We love and we fight but always come back to love. We can truly be ourselves with each other and help each other grow and learn, which I think is one of the most important things in a relationship.” Thank you both for opening up, spending the evening with me, and allowing me to document this part of your story together!
