Manhattan Family Session

I’ve had the honor of photographing the Shirke family every year for the past five or six years. Last year, we met up for a family photography session in Tribeca and this year, our family session was in their Manhattan home. Each time we meet up, I am blown away with how much the kids have grown, but how much this family stays the same because they are true to themselves. Katie and Aneil are amazing parents who encourage their kids to play, explore their curiosities and discover their passions in their own way. Caroline and James have distinctly different personalities and it’s so fun to see them grown into new interests and traits.

Manhattan Family Photography Session

As Caroline gets older, she becomes interested in more things. She has always loved music, and this year, she was so excited to play her pink guitar. Caroline and James both play piano, and have since (almost) day one. James can be a bundle of energy, but he is also thoughtful and unexpectedly funny in smart, subtle ways. He loves basketball in his room, and they both love to glide along the New York City sidewalks on their scooters.

One of my favorite moments of this family photography session was when Caroline and James were playing on the couch like acrobats. Their sense of wonder, joy, and movement was so much fun to watch. It’s no wonder they love to move. Their mom, Katie, is a dancer with her own dance studio for kids called Manhattan Dance Lab.

Having printed photographs of your family to see and enjoy in your daily life is important. What if these photographs tell the stories of your family that make you the strong, unique, funny, sweet and caring family you are? That is always my goal with family photography, to capture the moments, document the memories, and photograph the stories that make you the wonderful, unique family you are.

This family loves displaying their finished artwork at home in the Poconos so everyone who visits can have a taste of their life in Manhattan, and they’re reminded of what they love the most. Aneil and Katie also love their portrait boxes so Caroline and James can take the matted photographs out to enjoy seeing their story and identity in print.
